Great Glen Expedition June 2010On the 30th of May a group of young people from Wirral set off with Oaklands to paddle across the entire country from East to West in open canoe. This is possible by linking the huge Lochs, sections of canal and white water rivers from Fort William to Inverness in Scotland. For 7 days the group remained self contained, carrying all the equipment and food we needed to complete the journey. We wild camped when out on the water at the base of mountains along the sides of the lochs; cooking for ourselves often on open fires. During the week we enjoyed the Scottish sun, sailed lochs, portaged the canal locks, paddled and lined our canoes down white water rivers, swam in and battled a changing wild on Loch Ness and cooked pizza on a fire! Although we didn't manage to complete our intended journey the adventure was a great success. Here's a few photos from our trip...
