Best bits of your course

?

We all enjoyed canoeing, and going down the slate mine. We also enjoyed the rock climbing (inside and out) and abseiling. I think we all enjoyed the Gorge walk and the Canoeing, some also enjoyed the Mine exploration.

We all enjoyed the gorge walking, canoeing and last but not least going into the mine. Gethin was our leader in the mine and he made us slide down –on our bottoms- so we could get out! In the gorge I fell over (luckily I was okay) and our main leader Matt helped us. Also we always worked as a team.

When we went canoeing Matt made us jump in and do the Titanic. The Titanic is where you stand on the edge of the boat, it gets jerked and you fall in! We all had great fun.

Most challenging bits…

? The canoeing was tough because we had to paddle against the wind and really work as a team. The Dingle walk was also hard and I didn’t think we could ever finish and get to the end of the route in one piece – especially because Emma fell over 40 times!!!

Some of us found that the gorge walk was tricky because the rocks were slippy and the water was rushing down quickly in parts.

For quite a lot of us it was the abseiling because of the thought of going off the edge of a rock face!!! But in the end everyone had done it and we were safely at the bottom.

What did you learn about yourself?

? I didn’t think I could do the canoeing or get to the top of the hardest rock climb – but I did! I learnt that when I pushed myself to my limits I could go further with encouragement from the instructors and team mates. That we have to work together and support each other through the good and bad, it’s hard and fun can always work.

What did you learn about others (your team mates)

?

In some things we had to learn to really work together otherwise we couldn’t do them. I also saw some people do amazing things I didn’t think they could do before we came to Oaklands. One or two others also couldn’t do things I thought they would do easily. Quite a lot including that they too have their limits and fears, and like me, with encouragement they can push themselves much harder. We can all work together if we try and persevere.

What did you learn about the environment?

? I learnt to take more care of the

environment and I decided that when I get home I will be more interested in things like trees, animals and insects.

That the environment can produce some amazing sights and areas and that we need to do all we can to preserve it for as long as we can..

That you have to respect it and try to take care with it but enjoy it to its full!!!!!!
