Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Residential (27-31 Oct 2008)

Welcome to your blog...

A few photos...

What you said...

You’re Group:

The 2008 ‘D’ of ‘E’ residential !!!!- Lauren, Paul, Sophie, Joe, Anna, Kirsty, Josh, Hannah, Helen, Rachael, Marty, Lyidia, Colin and Sonia!!!

Best bits of your course

The best bits of the course were the, mining because it was fun and really funny, Josh nearly knocked Anna and Rach off the slate slope!!! Its all josh’s fault! (Josh- was it...) Gethin talked about how the iris of your eyes adjust to the light in darker places and the walking out into the blizzard was amazing and the night walk was great because we saw shooting stars. Lauren- I saw my first shooting star!

Most challenging bits…

Getting down off the mountain when it was covered in snow, because Helen slid down most of it on her backside  lol! We had to escape back underground to warm up – it was freezing!!!!   Rowing in the canoes against the wind because the canoe kept turning around but we learnt that you can use the side of the boat as a sail to help you get through it. Josh rolled a cigarette in a blizzard with really cold hands, frostbite and trench foot!!! Keeping cool when josh was annoying but Lauren threw things at him when she was too angry!!!!  Needs anger management ha!

What did you learn about yourself?

Lauren- I talk in my sleep, but it didn’t make any sense. Kirsty took her science book with her, but WHY??? Not to let Colin take charge in looking after keys!!!! Teamwork is essential to success.

What did you learn about others (your team mates)

Joe didn’t like heights but was amazing at climbing! He was the best in the group. Josh is scared of Lauren. Lauren battering Josh . Lauren throwing a 8 litre bottle of water at josh but it missing and hitting Rach on the head. Josh is not a supervisor ( even if he thinks so) People are allergic to oranges. Some people are messy! Some people are better at other things than other! Sonia gets moody about 11 o’clock. pm

What did you learn about the environment?

The weather effects the activities. The weathers unpredictable, and UFO’s are true!!!! We managed to get split up from the group and boys make up stupid stories about dinosaurs coming to get you. J
