South Wirral High Expeditions (16-18the November 2009)

Red Groups photos and comments.....

What we learnt about:

 Ourselves

We found we could do things we never thought we could do and cope in different environments without things we use or do normally at home.
We trusted ourselves in taking routes we thought looked safest and easiest while we waited for the rest of the group.
Our patience was tested as we approached the place we were staying because we just wanted to be relieved of our heavy bags and have some food and a good sleep.
Before we went on our expedition we had to prepare our bags to make sure everything would stay dry in our bags, and our bags got a lot wetter than thought that they would- but luckily our clothes inside and sleeping bags didn’t get wet. Before the expedition we also had to decide what things we were going to take would be essential and things we would definitely need.
We also had to have self confidence when navigating as we didn’t know if the route we had chosen to take was the right one.

Each other

We got to know people we had never spoken to before and also learned more about the people we already knew.
We learnt how to trust each other and to be considerate and help out everyone.
We always made sure everyone had good company, kept happy and made each other laugh (a lot)!
We all worked as a team and made sure everybody was feeling okay and felt ready to start walking again.

The Environment

When we were in the forest, it was hard to work out when the ground would get slippery or boggy. Also, we couldn’t tell if something we stepped on would be a big hole.  We found these environments challenging but when we overcame the obstacles of the forest, the feeling was rewarding.

Everyday there were heavy rainfalls which made it hard for us while we walked towards our hut. It was hard because our route had to be changed at the last minute and we didn’t know how long or steep this way would turn out to be. It was also hard because it meant all of our clothing and bags got wet and soggy and we worried about our sleeping bags and our other clothes in our bags.

It was nice to get out of a busy environment and be able to see the beautiful sights that we did when we got to the top of mountains and steep hills. The greenery and old buildings were interesting.
