South Wirral High 3rd-9th February 2007

We asked you what you learnt about the three main learning themes of the Centre: Yourself, Others and the Environment. This is what you had to say about...

Yourself

(Click on any of the photos for a better view)

When we went to Oaklands we learnt to trust ourselves and to build up our confidence. We did this by taking part in challenging activities.

I have done a lot more things than what I expected to do and I have achieved a lot as well. (jade)

Before I came to Oakland ’s I couldn’t look after my clothes very well but now I have developed a fantastic technique on how to look after all my stuff and myself (Connor)

I’ve learnt to try every situation that I have been faced with and not to give up .

 Others

In different activities we had to rely on others and get on with them as well. for example when we went rock climbing we had to trust others to hold the rope

We have helped each other in a lot of ways and jay that is from sixth form has helped us a lot and encouraged us a lot to try new and exciting things. Mike doesn’t like heights but he eventually got over it when we went through the mines. Lee has helped everyone in the group as well and encouraged us to enjoy it and have fun.
We’ve learnt to work as a group through out the week and we have learnt new things about each other.

Environment

We saw a lot of wild animals which taught us to respect them and their habitat.
The environment is hard to get used to because of the cold weather and the high walks through mountains but with the help of your friends you can easily get through it.
We have seen a different type of environment from what we are used to on the Wirral , also found out about the slate mines.

We also asked you what was the most rewarding part of your course...

The best part  of the course was working together and enjoying our time at Oaklands.
The best bit of the Oakland’s course for most of the group was the mining because it included a lot of the activates and when we got out of the mine me all had a play around in the snow and came back to Oakland’s for a nice hot dinner.
The best part of this course was facing are fears through out different activities and having fun with friends.

And what you'd suggest to others visiting the Centre soon...

This centre is interesting, fun and challenging. This is a good experience and well worth visiting.
That they would have a great experience that is like a once in a life time event to try things you might have never have done and might never do again. And you will enjoy it a lot and you will get to know people a lot better.

I would advise people who are planning a trip to Oakland ’s to face anything that they are challenged with.

What you've said...

Oaklands is amazing one of the best parts was reaching the top of siabod.

I also liked it in the slate mine when we walked on false floor, it would have been better if Dave brought the rope.

SS group 2
