When we were belly sliding on the canoe. It was really fun because we got totally wet and it was like our own waterslide.

Jumping off the cliffs into the sea because it felt like we were flying.

Going down the slides in the mine into the total darkness because we felt terrified yet excited at the same time! Not being able to see our hands in front of our faces in the mine.

Crawling through the tubes on the adventure walk because we had to wriggle like a worm, it was really tight and we couldn’t kneel up.

Being at Oaklands with our friends.

The hot chocolate and food!

 Most challenging bits…

Jumping off the cliffs.

Going down the second slide in the mine.

Walking up the loose slate.

Pulling ourselves up the rope in the mine because it was very slippy and dark and we had to be careful where we put our feet!

Climbing on the rocks with sea underneath us.

Trying to light our fire with the lighting stick.

What did you learn about yourself?

That we could  face challenges that we have never faced before e.g. jumping off the cliffs.

That wet suits keep us warm by body heat warmed the water to the same temperature as our bodies.

That we could face our fears with confidence through the help of the rest of the team and Andy and the other staff.

The we have learnt how to canoe.

That by trying things I can do them!

That we can stay away from our parents and have a fun time.

That we aren’t as organised as we thought we were!

What did you learn about others (your team mates)

That we all helped each other.

We all looked after each other well and made sure we were all safe.

That I’m not the only one who couldn’t swim very far (Macauley).

That we’ve enjoyed singing together on the bus.

Being on a bus for a long time isn’t that bad when we’re with our friends.

What did you learn about the environment?

That we can eat wood sorrel from the woods.

It smells a bit different.

We saw fighter planes because of the air space.

Sea water tastes different to water at home.

We saw herons.

There are more trees, farms, sheep, mountains, lakes and slate mines.

Best bits of your course

Gorge walking – lots of fun as well as challenge; mine walking – sliding on the rock faces in the dark; sea level traverse – using the ropes to cross from one cliff to another

 Most challenging bits…

Abseiling, mine walking (in pitch blackness)

What did you learn about yourself?

I can trust to my friends; if I encourage people they are able to succeed more easily; I’m not very organised (at home I depend on my mum too much); I have become more confident through facing my fears.

What did you learn about others (your team mates)

They are trustworthy; they get upset if I don’t respect their needs; they have different needs from mine; they can do things I never expected.

What did you learn about the environment?

Wales has a lot of slate (and sheep). Our environment is truly beautiful and we must look after it.
